Stride Rite

Spring 2008

The Stride Rite Community Service Program was established in 1983 by the Stride Rite Foundation. The goal of the program is to support students of diverse economic and social backgrounds as they become leaders in their communities, both as undergraduates and beyond. To do this, the program provides reflection and skill development opportunities, mentorship and financial assistance.

There are three main components of the program, the Undergraduate Scholars Program, Postgraduate Fellowships, and Senior Recognition Awards. Please scroll down for details.

Undergraduate Scholars Program
Scholarships are awarded to low-income, undergraduate students to support a consistent, year-round commitment to service. Scholars join a community of 35-40 undergraduates dedicated to service and social justice. The group engages in reflection and shared learning, guided by Stride Rite Program staff. In addition, Scholars receive financial support and one-on-one mentorship. Any rising sophomore, junior or senior who is Federal Work Study Eligible, or who is from a low-income background is welcome to apply.

Postgraduate Fellowship
Stride Rite Postgraduate Fellowships are intended for Harvard seniors who were devoted to service as undergraduates, and who demonstrate a future lifetime commitment to service. The spirit of the award is to provide fellows with the opportunity to put their vision for social change into action.  Each fellow is awarded up to $25,000. The grant money is intended to support the fellow’s living expenses as they work on a public interest project in the year following graduation. The money may not be used for project expenses, but fellows are encouraged to seek other project funding if applicable.
